Gremlins are a type of Goblin that specialize in sabotaging technology and using it to set up traps to deal with their prey.

Appearances[]

So far they come in a small size, allowing them to slip into small spaces so they can sabotage machinery and sneak attack their prey.

Art & Abilities[]

Gremlins can be used to set traps and change the battlefield to a dangerous one, but they tend to be indiscriminate in targeting.[1] Anything dealing with technology or machines can be a weapon in their hands.

Compared to other goblin types they tend not to be good fighters, at least compared to other goblins.[2] Given technologies concentration in cities and other human inhabited areas they are the likely to be amoung the most well adapted to the urban environment.[3]

Notable Gremlins[]

Trivia[]

  • Gremlins are a relatively new piece of folklore from almost a hundred years ago. Possibly an outgrowth of all the blasphemous things engineers would say when dealing with uncooperative new equipment like airplanes.

  1. “I’m short my best goblin,” Maggie said.  “The ones I do have are the most minor sort of gremlin.”

    “Just add water?” I asked.

“No.  Dismantlers, trapmakers,” she said.  She showed me the folded paper slips.  Each one had what I might have assumed was a sun scrawled on it, along with goblin names and basic labels.  I belatedly realized the suns were supposed to be mechanical gears. -Excerpt from Subordination 6.8
  2. Started to try and track the categories and stuff. Gremlins are goblins who work with technology. Not so good at fighting but they can take stuff apart and put some basic traps and weapons together. So I’m figuring they have their own categories. - (5.2 Spoilers),Faerie Courts & Goblins
  3. “Goblin subcategory,” Verona explained.  “Technology focused.  Used to be rare but they thrive more in the modern day.  They can get deeper into cities.”

“First started cropping up when humanity took to the air with airplanes.  ‘There’s a monster on the wing!’ and conspiracies about why planes were running into problems in the second world war.  Maybe goblins took it as a challenge and stepped up to make it happen.” -Excerpt from Shaking Hands 9.5
  4. “Snatch, we’ll need you to handle any locks or other mechanical things.  There’s a building in progress.  You should like that.”

Nat smiled behind the curtain of mud-slicked hair.

“Is she a gremlin?” Tymon asked.  “A techie-goblin?”

“She beat up a gremlin a while back, took his stuff,” Toadswallow explained.

  5. America reached in through one of the car windows -no glass- and grabbed a goblin from the car interior, glancing over her shoulder before bringing it out.  It looked like a different type than the usual, which said a lot when goblins came in all shapes and sizes, with all sorts of features ranging from the noseless to the big-nosed, big-eared to pig-eared to earless.  This guy was decorated in glass and metal, and was bound thoroughly in chain and bike lock.  One key-turn freed him from most of it, America shoved some food in its mouth, gave its head a pat, while it smiled up at her, then tossed him into the open engine block at the front of the car.

    “Bound goblin?” Avery asked.

“I think it’s a happy goblin,” Verona mused. - https://palewebserial.wordpress.com/2021/01/12 Excerpt] from Vanishing Points 8.2
